The NATIONAL MEMORIAL DAY CONCERT airs on PBS Sunday, May 24, 2020, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. CST, as well as to our troops serving around the world on the American Forces Network. The concert will also be streaming on Facebook, YouTube and and available as Video on Demand, May 24 to June 7, 2020. Also participating in new and some past selected performances are members from the U.S. Army Herald Trumpets, the U.S. Army Chorus, the U.S. Army Voices and Downrange, the Soldiers’ Chorus of the U.S. Army Field Band, the U.S. Navy Band Sea Chanters, the U.S. Air Force Singing Sergeants, and Service Color Teams provided by the Military District of Washington, D.C.


Minnesota State Veteran Cemeteries will hold a virtual Memorial Day program.  Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs is partnering with TPT – Twin Cities PBS to create a 30-minute Memorial Day program entitled “Always Remember: A Minnesota Tribute to Veterans we’ve lost,” that will be broadcast across the state on TPT’s Minnesota Channel at 7:30 p.m. CST on Monday, May 25.  “This year we will mark this special day in a new and different way, but with the same goal: to honor and pay our respects to Minnesota Veterans who have passed.”  More at Pay tribute to someone who has given all. MN DAV Chapter 39 meetings have been cancelled per MN State COVID-19 stay at home order effective from March 27 at 11:59 p.m. to May 17 at 11:59 p.m. Details at…/for-minnesot…/stay-home-order/faq/index.jsp While the MN DAV State Convention has been planned for June 26, it will probably be rescheduled as it exceeds public meetings of more than 50 people, per CDC and MN State COVID-19 safety guidelines. Update coming soon. Clothing drives have been cancelled, along with removal of clothing collection bins, until an outlet returns to process the collected items. More than 40,000 pounds of clothing is currently being stored in trailers and chapter and unit member garages. Dollar Day bagging fund-raiser, scheduled for June 10, is pending updated COVID-19 safety recommendations. Check back for updated details. The July 2020 Golf Tournament has been cancelled and the tournament committee is already making plans for the July 2021 major fund-raiser. The Anoka County Veterans Picnic scheduled for May 23 is pending updated COVID 19 regulatory guidance. Check back for update. MN Chapter 39 and Unit 39 have been busy making needed masks for Minneapolis and St. Cloud VA hospital volunteers and veterans. Teaming up with groups from Grand Rapids, Elk River, and Rogers, our goal is to make 4,000 masks. If interested in participating call the Chapter adjutant.


The MN DAV Chapter 39 Golf Tournament scheduled for July 2020 has been cancelled. The Chapter’s golf committee reports it is looking forward to the next tournament on July 8, 2021.
