RECOGNIZING VETERANS

Recognizing Veterans in MN DAV Chapter 39’s five-plus county area continued on Sunday, Sept. 29 with blankets presented to WWII, Korea, and Vietnam War-era residents of Crest View in Blaine, MN. According to Lisa Miller, Air Force veteran and an active member of the Chapter, visits to nursing homes and assisted living facilities will extend beyond Veterans Day to honor each man and woman who has served our Country. The afternoon at Crest View grew into much more than a “thank you for your service,” event as more than a dozen Veterans shared their personal experiences and photographs of their service with fellow residents, staff members and visiting family members. The son and daughter of a female WWII Veteran commented, “We had no idea what our mom did in the Navy until this afternoon. We’re so proud of her.”

Ken Sholes, Navy Vietnam Veteran, and Lois West, Navy WWII Veteran, share photographs and experiences of their military service at MN DAV Chapter 39’s blanket presentations on Sept 29, 2019. Both residents of Crest View in Blaine for more than two years, the event opened the doors to conversations, friendships, knowledge and a new appreciation for fellow veterans, family members, and facility staff.
